Asheville Community Theatre
Asheville Community Theatre, located in the heart of downtown Asheville, has a history of artistic excellence that continues as we stride into our 59th season. Voted “Best Theatre Group in Western North Carolina” numerous times by readers of both the Asheville Citizen-Times and Mountain Xpress, ACT remains an institution committed to providing quality entertainment for a reasonable price.

While best known for our large-scale musicals, ACT also offers classic comedies and dramas, contemporary pieces, and children’s theatre productions in our 399 seat Mainstage auditorium. Our second performance space is 35below, an intimate black box theater which produces smaller, unconventional works, music and cabaret performances, and play readings of new and local pieces. We offer a variety of classes for both youth and adult students, and plenty of volunteer opportunities for anyone interested in helping out. ACT is truly a community theatre, and we invite all to join us!

Mizilca offers "Transformational Bellydance" experiences: performances, classes, workshops, ceremonies & rituals, poetic dance journeys, articles, and dance costuming. She draws upon Goddess mythos of ancient cultures, yogic practices and energy work to evoke sacred and scintilating sensations for all watching or participating! Her approach to dancing is as an entertaining and inspiring dance priestess, employing the power of movement as a catalyst for internal change, and utilizing the isolated muscle groups as supportive excercises to physically support development, nurturance and rebalancing of the chakras. Split Tree Farm Studio
Our first CD, "the split tree recordings: the waltzes" was recorded, designed and produced in 1999-2000 by one of Split Tree's founding artists, composer/guitarist/vocalist Walter Parks of New York City. He recorded most pieces live, some improvised, with dancers dancing in the STF studio. "Lovely music," says Prof. Richard Powers of Stanford University's dance division. A renowned social dance historian and teacher, Powers provided strong leadership and encouragement that starting in 1996 first made Split Tree's ambience and fine floor known nationwide for his popular waltz balls, workshops and other dance weekends.

Walter Parks has been a part of farm happenings since he and former partner Stephanie Winters, who named the farm, performed at the first Split Tree 1994 spring festival as The Nudes, a guitar and cello duo singing original songs. One of their waltzes from their second "Boomerang" CD was donated for this CD. Walter wrote it after waltzing with Powers' teaching partner, Angela Amarillas, at the first Split Tree Viennese Ball in 1997. Parks has written a fine new original waltz for guitar and cello after waltzing with former Stanford dancer Tara Rishko at one of Richard Powers waltz weekends at Split Tree. Both waltzes will bring tears to your eyes and joy to your heart and set your bodies twirling into waltzing heaven. Alan Dynin was at the Steinway piano with Walter Parks, improvising a Viennese waltz and other pieces.

Other original and traditional waltzes from the popular dance bands "Misbehavin'" and "Atomic City Rhythm Rascals" (see song list) in additional to pieces by Parks and Alan Dynin, Robert Jamison, and Mary Jo Strickland, will have you out of your chair and up and dancing before you can count to three. Some of the waltz rhythms are subtle and require close listening.

Turiya Mareya Latin Jazz Ensemble
Turiya began studying Jazz at 15 years of age. She was Originally mentored by San Diego Jazz legend Daniel Jackson, Mareya followed his example by becoming proficient on both piano and reeds and focusing on playing her original compositions. She continued her work in New York, studying at the Creative School of Music. Later she toured Mexico with the Taumbu International Ensemble. All of those experiences help mold her unique approach based on World Music influences and drawing on the trance inducing and spirit calling focus of African and Indigenous approaches to music. She honed her abilities in Latin Jazz heading the Kokopelli Latin Jazz Ensemble where she had the privilege to work with drummer Skip Howlet known for his work with Mongo Santamaria and Tito Puente, as well as Cuban Bassist Ignacio Arango.
